That look on his face - "Why the fuck did I ever think people would want to buy mummies? Frank was right, what an obviously absurd business idea. Im ruined."

We lost so damn much history back in the bad old days. We had gangs of looters smashing open tombs, selling anything shiny and leaving the rest to rot if they didn't just break it for fun.

At the same time as this sort of awful destruction was happening in Egypt we had paleontologists smashing fossils they found but didn't have enough cargo space to take back so they could prevent other paleontologists from finding them and taking the credit. There was one guy who literally blew up one of the most promising fossil finds ever just because he didn't want anyone else seeing it.

Modern archaeologists must curse their predecessors from the 1800's and 1900's daily. Thanks to their shortsightedness and general assholery huge segments of history are basically closed off from us forever.
