A man armed with a large knife enters the Huay Kwang police station in Thailand. But instead of being ganged up he is welcomed with a power hug from a police officer.

CCTV shows a man holding a big knife entered the police station in Bangkok.

But instead of shooting the distressed man, police Officer Anirut Malee calmly talked and convinced the assailant to hand over his knife.

Relaxed and with no signs of fear, Officer Anirut casually talks to calm the 45-year-old distraught man.

Eventually, the man surrendered the knife. Anirut immediately throws it away and embraces the man!

According to Anirut, “He used to be a musician but had been working as a security guard for three days and had not been paid. On top of this, he had had his guitar stolen and it was all stressing him out. I heard him out and sympathized and said I had a guitar to give him, and suggested we go out for a meal together. We were conversing in Southern Thai dialect”.

The unnamed attacker was eventually sent to a hospital for an evaluation of his mental state and no charges were reported.

Meanwhile, Officer Anirut Malee was praised and hailed hero online for his sensible actions.

One commenter wrote, “Such a very kind man. Sometimes, a little kindness is all a person needs. Much respect and gratitude to this fine officer.”

This story just proves that violence can be prevented. Sometimes, understanding someone will do a greater good.

I'm Thai and I'm pretty proud of this. The way it turned from holding a knife into sitting down, talking to each other in a very respectful manner is simply touching.

What a great example of a proper sawasdeescalation.
