Royal de Luxe is a French mechanical marionette street theatre company. They were founded in 1979 in Aix-en-Provence by Jean-Luc Courcoult. After some years based in Toulouse, the company moved to Nantes in 1989. The company has performed in France, Belgium, England, Germany, Iceland, Chile, Australia, Mexico, Canada and Ireland.

The Royal de Luxe company uses giant puppets for its functions. These functions must be performed in the street because of the size of the puppets, which reach 15 meters in height .

In 1989, they received a call from the mayor of the French city of Nantes, offering them financing and an abandoned warehouse on the banks of the Loire River. It is here that the magic of Jean-Luc Courcoult could evolve into something truly colossal. Each giant , made of flexible poplar wood, is controlled by a system of pulleys and hydraulic levers by 20 to 40 members of the company , called Lilliputians. These giant puppets are not like any puppet, they care for the smallest details, such as the movement of the eyes, or the movement of the chest when breathing .

The "how it's made" of Royal de Luxe is something that is kept secret . Courcoult rarely grants interviews or visits to the studio, preferring to keep the mystery of his company's magic.
