Can't support this simply because MarioKart item distribution is terrible. In fact, it's far more rigged for 1st place than anywhere else. The further into the middle you get, the more red shells appear. This leads to the "crabs in the bucket" where the middle group beat the crap out of each other and 1st place finishes way ahead of everyone else.
