You know, I thought I had something for this, like a crass joke or something mocking them... but I don't.
I smiled ear to ear and I am a better person for reading that short story of one man helping his friend to get over his fears and love a cute little dog a little bit.
When I was younger I used to be scared of dogs. One huge friendly pupper had knocked me down once and since then I was terrified.
Then at my friend's birthday his huge German Shepherd came and sat in front of me looking me up and down while I shivered. It licked the hell out of me and before I knew it, we were cuddling each other. 15 years later and I love all dogs. They are just big goofy puppers who want a cuddle.
So when I was 5, I was outside playing with my friends when a neighbor's German Shepherd broke it's chain and went straight for us. My back got really ripped up and bitten but we managed to escape it by running into my friends house. Needless to say, I was absolutely petrified of dogs, to the point where I couldn't even enter a room with a dog I didn't know.
Fast forward about 5 years, I was outside building a snow cave when this tiny little dog came over and sat right in the entrance of my cave. I was paralyzed with fear at this tiny, tiny little daschund until it came over and just curled up next to me. Not know what to do, I reached over and touched it and just petted it until it sat up, climbed into my lap, and licked my face. Just like that, my fear was broken and I started sobbing while hugging this dog as it excitedly licked my face.
I'm still kinda apprehensive around stray dogs and dogs I don't know, but I saw myself so much in this story that it brought all this back.
