In the 90s in NYC there used to be 'squeegee guys' that would wash your window when you were stopped at a traffic light and then demand a $1 while you were still stuck. If you didn't pay, they would throw the dirty water they were using on your car.

The local news tracked one with a hidden long-distance camera for a 'special report'. They found that on a typical day these guys were making $25-$30 cash per hour with no taxes (in the 90s). The kicker, however, was that one of the guys they filmed worked about 10 hrs, and when he was done, he walked around the block and got into his Mercedes and drove off. Guilani made squeegee guys illegal not to long after that.

This is at Brighton Honda in Brighton, MI. I drive past at least 10 of them multiple a day at every intersection in the area. They show up close to holidays usually, but this year they never left. The area has a large amount of very well to do neighborhoods, so we're constantly flooded with panhandlers.

It's like that episode of south park but people keep giving them change.

This reminds me of a newspaper comic I saw several years ago. It was a busy city street corner, and everyone had their net-worth listed above their heads. Everyone was in the negatives from debt except a homeless man who had $5 in his cup.
