I am an actual coin collector, and I just went to the Long Beach coin show yesterday. These coins are highly popular and are available for sale at almost every "world coin" booth.
They are also all over eBay, as others have said. It is honestly worth between 12-17 dollars.
These are also not illegal in Germany, contrary to conventional wisdom.

some crackhead probably robbed a relative's coin collection. crackheads are really good about putting old coins and bills back into circulation.
