Well actually, there was a crusade against Constantinople in the 13th century. It's called the "4th Crusade". It caused the barbarians from Europe to destroy the greatest city the world has ever seen. Raping and pillaging was so bad, the people of the city never forget it. A famous phrase during the last days of Eastern Roman empire was "I would rather see a Turkish turban in the midst of the City than the Latin mitre" by the commander Loukas Notaras. The crusade caused so much damage, the city wasn't able to recover until the 15th century.
