My Grandfather, Jack Dyer, was a cartographer for the United States Geological Survey from 1948-1985. He was well known for his expedition to re-map The Grand Canyon from 1983-1985, the first of its kind since John Wesley Powell first attempted it in 1869. This is him working east of Pagosa Springs, Colorado on the continental divide in the Summer of 1953. Bonus photo of him and Bob, the guy who supplied the horses for his Colorado adventures.

Edit 3: lots of interest in a book of his adventures, happy to say this has been a plan of ours for a while and is a current work in progress! Also have been planning on doing an AMA which will likely happen in about two months due to currently being deployed.
