If anyone's interested in the formation of Devils Tower:

A long time ago, the area used to be a shallow inland sea. Rocks were sedimentary (sediments became compacted - mainly sandstone and siltstone). It's been decided that the tower is a laccolith/igneous intrusion or it's a volcanic neck (magma cooled inside volcano). Magma was forced upwards but never made it to the surface. Since sandstone and other sedimentary rocks are easily eroded, the tower was eventually exposed.
