Left picture was my senior year in high school. I hated my curls and my boring not-brown-but-not-blonde natural color all through my teenage years, so I did my best to destroy all of that. I got a relaxed curl perm, bleached it blonde, and straightened my hair 5-6 days a week, without using quality heat protectant. When I left for college, I stopped frequently using hot irons of any kind, only straightening/soft curling my hair every few months. I let my bleach blonde and the relaxed perm grow out and cut the dead and dry parts off every 3 months. I read up on what products were good and experimented with what worked for me! Right picture is today and I've never felt more in love with my hair.

My styling routine:

After shower, squeeze excess water from hair. Flip head upside down Apply generous amount of Cantu leave-in conditioner. Run fingers through hair to ensure even distribution. Scrunch in generous amount of Miss Jessie's Multi-Cultural Curls cream. Scrunch out excess water using a cotton t-shirt. Wrap hair in said t-shirt. Stand upright again and let hair sit in the shirt about 10 minutes. Flip head upside down again and remove t-shirt. Dry with hair drying facing toward the scalp. Use a diffuser! Put the heat settings on warm (not hot) with the speed on high. Scrunch hair with t-shirt while drying. This part usually takes me like 20 minutes (definitely have to take breaks so all the blood doesn't rush to my head and make me pass out). When it's close enough to completely dry, spray with medium-hold hairspray. Stand back up normally and fix where I want the part, hairspray that a little. Done!

Edit: Thanks for the love, everyone! I didn't expect this to blow up!! Also, to clarify for some of you: yes, the lighting is different and it's not a great before pic, but it's one of the only ones I have where it was natural, not straightened. Please remember this post is about my curls, not about my photo quality or my makeup ability.

Edit 2: I'm a percussionist, and I have never been in prison or addicted to any drugs 😂 Just don't fry your hair, people!

You went from a prison inmate to a God-sent angel.
