I was a young guy back in the late 80s. Back then, electronics were super expensive, especially in real dollar terms. Back then, a Sony Trinitron was about $400-$500 for a 26 inch tv, and a cheap Sony VCR was no less than $300. Then these companies like Goldstar and Funai sold us stuff for lots cheaper. Like a tv and vcr for about $400 total. Imagine a roomful of guys watching a movie on vcr on a 20 inch tv.

So yeah, LG had to shake off its cheap image.
