8 things you need to know about Maria Borrallo, Prince George and Princess Charlotte's nanny

Maria Borrallo is the full Mary Poppins. By Caroline Leaper

As nanny to Prince George and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, Maria Borrallo is playing an integral role in shaping our country's future royals… and she's teaching them a thing or two about devising a cheeky photo op in the process.

Here's what you need to know…

So she's Prince George and Princess Charlotte's nanny

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appointed Maria in 2014, when Prince George was just eight months old. She lives with the family at Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall, and travels with them on all royal tours and excursions.

Maria even looks like a nanny from a perfect Disney world. She wears a Fifties-style nurse's dress to work every day, accessorised with white gloves, brown brogues and a little brown bowler hat. She's 'amazing', according to Kate.

So why the retro uniform? Maria's signature ensemble is actually the official kit for Norland nannies, the graduates of Bath's prestigious (and impossible to get into) Norland College. It has been training nannies for the rich and famous since 1892, and the curriculum includes sewing, cooking and nappy-changing, as well as self-defence and, um, skid-pan training.

Her favourite places to visit with the young royals include Hyde Park and Bucklebury Farm Park… basically anywhere that boasts some green space to roll around in and a decent farm of mini-beasts for Prince George to gaze at.

She was responsible for that window moment

Remember that amazing Prince George moment from the Queen's birthday celebrations? Guess who was his enabler?

She has fun chats with the Queen

Casual. We'd love to know what they were discussing in this picture, taken at Princess Charlotte's christening.

But grew up in Palencia in the north-west of Spain. She has since introduced Kate to several Spanish childrenswear labels, including Pepa & Co and M&H.

Well maybe it's hers, maybe it belongs to one of her charges. Either way, we'd say she's working it.

Met a girl going there while I was in Amsterdam, she said the employment rate and pay after graduating was ridiculous

Here is a documentary about Norland College. Very interesting. They learn self-defense and even how to evade paparazzi.
