You may laugh, but when I was young, it was the only way to keep our bananas in working order while we walked to school in those cold Wyoming winters. Some kids could only afford second-hand batteries and they sometimes failed. Let me tell you, it was a sad site for some to open their lunch pail and find out that your banana had died. It taught me to get a good job so I can buy high quality batteries for my kids and my grandkids and they wont ever have to experience banana failure.
