I think there's a lot of comedy which isn't funny in the slightest but manages to get popular by being relatable. Marmaduke and Family Circus are like that. I can't for the life of me see humor in it but I can picture Middle Ages people at the breakfast table snorting "Haha so true! My dog eats food off the counter when I'm not looking!"
