Last Wednesday, I finally defended my PhD thesis after 3 and a half years of work. And as I have a fitness tracker, I thought it'd be funny to record my stress level during the PhD defense. Since (obviously) there is no option "PhD thesis" on my fitness tracker, I used the option "indoor running" to record the plot. I pressed start just as the president of the Jury was closing the door of the classroom.

From 0 to 3 minutes he's introducing me, so I'm sitting down, and i'm trying to relax a little. I guess that I'm standing up and starting to talk when the Heart rate comes close to 115 (after about 4 minutes).

Then the defense was divided in 30 minutes presentation / 30 minutes questions. I assume the big spike at 41 minutes or so, was a moment of small panic during one tough question.

But besides the spikes, I was mostly amaze by the high average. I'm wearing this fitness tracker everyday, and my Resting Heart Rate is usually close to 60. When I'm just walking, my HR barely reaches 100. So here knowing that I'm just standing up, the average around 120 is way above my usual rate. Which can be easily understood knowing the circumstances.

PS: For those wondering what tracker I used, it's the Garmin fenix 3 HR, and I got the plot through their app.

Did you get to a difficult point, panic, then nail it and experience a moment of Zen around the 40 mark?
