Every year at this time there appears here comments from the Dutch, praising us, thanking us, and promising never to forget. Every year there is a national outpouring of gratitude from the Netherlands to Canada.

It is simply wonderful.

Thank you, you're welcome, thank you again.

Although I do not pretend to be worthy to speak for the good men that fought in that theatre, I've known a couple, one being my late father-in-law. I know he appreciated these gestures more than I can express.

I honestly think that you guys are the only ones who haven't forgotten that Canada was even involved in WWII. This gives me the warm fuzzies.

During a joint multinational NATO exercise in Europe we were working with the Dutch military. One of their soldiers recognized our unit as the one who liberated his village during the second world war (PPCLI) he approached one of our guys and told him of how our unit had liberated his village where his grandparents were living at the time. As a sign of respect he offered one of our guys a really nice Dutch flag patch.
