Actually technically they were Americans, as the Union never formally recognized the Confederacy. This is why both lives lost are counted towards American deaths.
I'm Norwegian and i've seen people flag the confederate flag on barns, on the back of their car and call themselves "norwegian rednecks". It's so fucking dumb I can barely comprehend it
