Created in Google Sheets with a little Microsoft Paint. Nothing special, but very interesting source data!

Gretzky and Lemieux are extraordinary outliers in sports history.

Edit:

I've made an updated post from requests on /r/hockey. This includes era-adjusted statistics, in addition to actual statistics: https://np.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/68r661/nhl_career_adjusted_points_per_game_updated_due/

Been a hockey fan since childhood. When I was a kid I was lucky enough to get CBC Hockey Night in Canada in Michigan. Watching the Edmonton Oilers in their prime on TV spoiled me. The Oilers with Gretzky, Messier, Fuhr, Kurri, Coffey were absolutely incredible to watch. The only thing close that I've seen since was the Red Wings when they had the Russian 5 on the ice. With the right ownership the Oilers could have won the cup every year for a decade.

Any hockey fan should check out Ultimate Gretzky video. Sure it was a different era and they didn't have to deal with these sumo goalies but the man scored 50 goals in 39 games. Unreal.

Another great stat:

Wayne and his brother Brent hold the NHL record for most points scored by a pair of brothers. Wayne has 2857, and Brent has 4.
