"electrocute" is a combination of the words "electro" and "cute", meaning it can only be used when referring to pokémon such as Pikachu and Emolga, and never to Electrode or Dedenne.

Even though I'm a pretty hard-line grammar snob/pedant, I concede that this is one of those battles that will probably be lost (if it isn't already). Like with decimate, which technically/originally meant to reduce an army by exactly 1/10th (hence the deci- prefix), but now just means "fuck stuff up".
