Approval ratings for Presidents Obama and Trump shown in the Presidential Job Approval Center are based on weekly Gallup Daily tracking averages. Approval ratings for Presidents Truman through George W. Bush are based on periodic polls that typically lasted four days.

New data are updated by 1 p.m. ET on Mondays.

Damn, that post-9/11 spike for Bush. Nothing like tragedy and a common enemy (suspending any comment on whether the Afghanistan/Iraq war was justified) to bring people together.

Obama seems quite odd in comparison to the others, he just sits there fluctuating between being moderately popular or unpopular, without going to the extreme highs or lows of previous presidents. Is this perhaps due to increasing polarisation in US politics, so there are some people who will never approve and others who will never disapprove?
