It doesn’t happen often. But for 99-year-old lifelong golfer C.D Madsen, it did.

The Marin Country Club member of 57 years golfs and works out at the club once a week. He frequently visits head golf professional Ken Doherty’s office and gawks at the hole in one photo hanging on the wall.

Perhaps the greatest joy of a game that simultaneously stimulates and infuriates is that one great stroke. A day filled with saddening swings and unforgiving bunkers can quickly be recharged with one smooth shot. The one that reassures you’ll be back.

Madsen has surely had these days. But not on this one. He shot an 85, just 13 over par, on the day he wrote the script of his now cherished story.

Madsen got his hole in one on hole 16 using his 6 iron from 108 yards away.

Just to put this in perspective, the odds of a normal person getting a hole in one are 12,500 to 1.

I believe he now holds the record for the oldest person to get a hole in one.
