When it comes to the battle of the late night shows we know one thing for sure: Jimmy Fallon's ratings have been down for weeks and Stephen Colbert is celebrating by throwing his staff exciting pizza parties.

A recent New York Times profile on The Late Show's notable rise in ratings examined Colbert's new political approach and provided a fun anecdote on how his team celebrates besting his handsome, successful, funny guy rival, Fallon.

In what the New York Times refers to as "one of the most surprising turnaround stories in recent television," Colbert's The Late Show ratings have officially topped The Tonight Show for NINE consecutive weeks. Woah, baby.

And in case you didn't know, Colbert is taking his victory in stride.

According to the Times, Colbert was "losing by more than a million viewers" this time last year, so to celebrate he's going all out — and yep, that means staff pizza days.

"Throughout the offices of The Late Show, staff members could be heard saying, “Pizza! Pizza!” — celebrating a reward that comes on Tuesdays when they beat The Tonight Show in the ratings," Times writer John Koblin noted.

Though Fallon's goofy viral bits used to reign supreme, it seems that ever since Trump rolled into town, people aren't quite in the same mood.

I went to a Colbert taping once, and some audience member who seemed to be a super fan asked him some question relating to C.S. Lewis, one of his favorite authors. Colbert went into some 10 minute long story-filled response, answering life questions and connecting them to the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. It was nuts. I wish he was in my college discussion sections, because I would totally go to them if he was.

Meanwhile, my last job only gave us a pizza party when a third party vendor paid for it because their product sold well.
