I find his life's story so tragic and bittersweet. For me he is one of the persons I strangely identify with, because at his heart he always seemed to be a very genuine and "down to earth" (haha, I know) person, who had a talent. He was an excellent pilot and made it into the programe, because of this and his character, but he never seemed to be an "Apparatschik", doing things for political, or career gains.

And many people know the "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." transmission form Armstrong, but I found Gagarin's "Поехали!", when he was launched into space on that day so fuckin poetic to be honest :-) It can be translated with a simple "let's go", but in Russian, there's so much more to it, because it's plural and it implies the beginning of the "movement". So for me it always sounds like he is telling everybody to "let's fuckin make this happen, let us all start, let us all make the first step here". And it's all in one simple expression.

I like this guy.

It was a great moment for the Soviet Union and a great moment for humanity.

Pretty fucking cool - to be the first man who has left the bonds of Earth. I simply can't imagine the feelings - to know you're truly pushing what man has done in tens of thousands of years of our existance as a species.
