My golden retriever does the same thing. We live near a kinder and occasionally I'll take her for a walk, kids are in the yard playing and she stops and waits for pats. She gets very upset and throws a fit (growling in a cute way) if she doesn't get enough attention.
I wonder if he gets super bummed out that his friends aren't coming by during the summer. The first day of school must be this pups favorite day of the year.
