Are there that many launch pads cause at some point they thought they would be launching so many shuttles they would need that many pads, that they might have been launching multiple rockets a day or week?

Finally something I know! I was stationed there back in 2011 and during our lunch breaks we would grab our flashlights and explore the old launch facilities of those pads. There is a maze of underground tunnels and testing facilities too. The coolest part is the inside is like they just left work one day and never came back.
