That appears to be a **Small White butterfly**, found in the UK but not sure where else. People calling it a moth are incorrect. [Here's what a living one looks like - see pic on the right](http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/images/similarspecies/images/Green-veined%20White%20-%20Small%20White%20-%20upperside.jpg) The wing dots were faint to begin with and have been abraded off, but the edging is pretty clear. And the size and clarity of that edging can vary a little from insect to insect. **IMPORTANT ACCURACY EDIT MUCH LATER**: I said "believe that is" because I'm not an insect scientist, only a mild hobbyist. However, I have heard from a couple more experienced fellow redditors - /u/Coach__Q and /u/Al-Hexahedron (and maybe uncredited others) that this is actually a LARGE White Butterfly. Thanks, fellow redditors, for politely pointing out my mistake. They have more experience than I do and I defer to their species identification. [Here is a revised pic showing the similarity to this species variation. The key is there are no easily discernable spots on the wings, and there is a clear dark "edge" on the front of the wing.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/56/Large_White._Pieris_brassicae_-_Flickr_-_gailhampshire_%281%29.jpg/220px-Large_White._Pieris_brassicae_-_Flickr_-_gailhampshire_%281%29.jpg)
