How about we focus on Sexual Assault, not Trump. Oh, and a quick P.S.

President Trump proclaimed April “National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.”

At the heart of our country is the emphatic belief that every person has unique and infinite value. We dedicate each April to raising awareness about sexual abuse and recommitting ourselves to fighting it. Women, children, and men have inherent dignity that should never be violated…

Of course, Trump’s Sexual Assault Awareness and Protection Month starts on April Fools Day.

The media is outraged. Some of us are insulted, enraged. Most journalists started digging back through the dozens of sexual allegations that have been made against Trump. (He has been accused of sexual assault and sexual harassment by at least fifteen women since the 1980s, and makes narcissistic and misogynistic comments like there’s no tomorrow.)

But most of us are caught in a paradox: we can’t complain about there being a National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.

Having a National Sexual Assault Awareness Month is a good thing.

Instead of making this a no-win scenario, let’s not even talk about Trump. How about we just focus on sexual assault?

P.S. – SAAM isn’t “new” – It has been around since the 90s

Trump didn’t “create” Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It has existed since the 1990s.

Despite choosing a single week in April, some advocates began holding sexual violence events throughout the month of April. By the late 1990s, it was common. Advocates began calling for a national Sexual Assault Awareness month. – Source.

And here is last year’s Proclamation by President Obama.
