Just FYI this wall predates Trump by quite a bit, it was built during Operation Gatekeeper (a Clinton initiative in 1994). It worked in the sense that it lowered crossings in California, by pushing migrants to take the more dangerous desert routes into Arizona. The same, if not more migrants, still attempt to enter the US, but a lot more die.
I was there on the Mexican side on like '08. It was the exact same wall. There were kids on the Mexican side playing soccer and using the fence as a goal. The ball would end up on the US side and it was like watching The Sandlot. The kids would take off running onto the US side, grab the ball, and come flying back. Every time that happened, a brand new Ford Raptor Border Patrol truck would come ripping down the hill above the beach, sit there for 10 minutes, then drive away. Rinse and repeat for like the whole afternoon we were there.
