When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to break with their government, they got to explain the reasons.
We hold these truths to be universal, that all men are created equal, that they all have rights, including Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. To make sure we keep these rights, Governments are created, getting their powers with the permission of the governed. Whenever the Government fails this purpose, it is the Right of the People to change or to get rid of it, and to create a new Government.
Common sense shows that Governments should not be changed for light reasons; it is better to suffer if the evils are sufferable. But when a long list of abuses shows a pattern of tyranny, it is their right, IT IS THEIR DUTY, to get rid of that Government, and to provide new protections for their future security. The Colonies have suffered under this absolute Tyranny and we have to change this government. To prove this to the world, this is a list of facts.
