San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones said she’s directed city staff to amend rapper Ye’s contract so he agrees not to perform his song “Heil Hitler” and to refrain from selling any swastika merchandise during his planned July 4 concert at the Alamodome.
“The fact that we even had to ask for those things is ludicrous,” Jones told KSAT-TV during a Tuesday night appearance.
The contract amendments come as Jones continues to call on her City Council colleagues to vote to cancel the concert over the performer’s history of making antisemitic remarks.
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has since apologized for the remarks, which he said stemmed from an ongoing battle with mental illness.
For the concert to be canceled, a majority of council would need to side with Jones in a public vote.
During her KSAT appearance, Jones said District 9 Councilwoman Misty Spears requested three free tickets to the concert.
