A group of men were allegedly seen climbing out of sewer manholes in Brooklyn, New York, last week on at least two separate occasions, in a series of unsettling incidents caught on surveillance footage and now under NYPD investigation.

Those temptations were put on full display last week by two separate incidents caught on camera Friday night, where troops of people were seen emerging from manhole covers across Brooklyn after sneaking around the steamy depths in what police said were likely scavenging operations. https://x.com/TheOfficerTatum/status/2061461663098737109
The New York Police Department is looking into an incident involving a group of apparently unconnected men who were discovered climbing out of the city's underground sewer network.
Surveillance video circulating across social media captured what appeared to be several men emerging from sewage manholes across Brooklyn last week on at least two distinct occasions. The NYPD confirmed Monday that authorities are aware of the incidents, and that emergency personnel descended underground to verify that the situation posed no danger to the public.
No arrests have been made, and the incident continues to be investigated with support from the NYPD's Intelligence Division.

Despite this, police currently believe the group of men is "scouring the system for valuables that get into the sewage," according to a senior law enforcement official who spoke to NBC News.
"The NYPD, to make sure there was not a threat to the public, sent their highly trained Emergency Services Unit officers into the sewer system to make sure nothing nefarious had been left behind by the individuals - nothing was found. And the city Environmental Protection Department, which manages the system, also went in and apparently found no damage to the sewer system equipment," the official said in a statement to NBC News.
The NYPD reported receiving their first call around 11 p.m. Thursday regarding individuals entering a manhole near McDonald Ave. and Colin Pl. in Brooklyn. Approximately three hours later, officers observed some of the individuals emerging from the sewer system, reports the Mirror US.
The following day, police received another call around 1 a.m. Friday, reporting people lifting and descending into a manhole roughly 10 miles away near Heyward St. and Bedford Ave. in Brooklyn. Around two-and-a-half hours after going underground, the individuals were seen surfacing before jumping into a waiting vehicle and fleeing the scene, according to NBC 4 New York.
A senior law enforcement official told NBC that there appear to have been several similar incidents over the past year or two, involving individuals trespassing to search for valuables underground. At least one person has previously been arrested in connection with the alleged offense.
One of the videos circulating across social media captures a man removing a manhole cover to allow seven men to resurface.
All of the men who climbed out of the manhole appeared to be wearing coveralls before stopping near McDonald and Bedford Avenues to change their clothing.
A separate video shows a man pushing open a manhole near Heyward St. and Bedford Ave. in Brooklyn, allowing six others to emerge behind him. All of the men appeared to be equipped with headlamps, while three of the individuals were visibly carrying shovels. At this time, the NYPD has found no evidence linking the two incidents.
"There were no injuries reported. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing," an NYPD spokesperson said.

My brother ofter recalls his story of when he was working in downtown Toronto. During one extremely bad rain storm, the water was running all down the street and even popping through some sewer manhole covers. He was in a coffee shop grabbing a quick bite when he sees a manhole cover side off to the side and a guy crawls out and starts casually walking down the street.
