US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that the United States is temporarily suspending efforts to mediate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, signaling a clear withdrawal from an active diplomatic role at this stage of the conflict.
According to Rubio, the US has so far been the only actor that both sides, Moscow and Kiev, have agreed to communicate directly through, but these efforts have not produced any concrete results.
"We were the only ones that both the Russians and the Ukrainians were willing to talk to. That's why we got involved. Unfortunately, it didn't produce results. That's the point," Rubio declared.
He added that Washington will return to the negotiating table only if the dynamics of the conflict change and new conditions for real progress are created.
"If anyone else wants to take on this role - please, you're welcome," he said, hinting that the US would no longer exclusively bear the burden of mediation.
The statement comes at a time of prolonged diplomatic stalemate, where international efforts for a lasting solution to the war in Ukraine have remained without concrete results.

SS: The american secretary of state has announced the US in 'temporaily' suspending its role as intermediary between Ukrainian and russian negotiations. He added that Washington will return to the negotiating table only if the dynamics of the conflict change and new conditions for real progress are created. It is unclear whether this will hinter or help diplomatic efforts. This american diplomatic withdrawal may represent an opportunities for other powersto step in and assume the responsibility.
