The number of people who have died from not seeking medical care because they were afraid of being charged outrageous costs has got to be huge.

Here’s what happened to me. Got a 20k invoice for ambulance. Asked why it wasn’t covered and got “sorry, they weren’t ‘in network’, so it’s not covered.”

“Ok, who is the ‘in network’ provider in my area?”

“We don’t have one.” 😐

So I read my policy and it says if there is no “in network” provider, they have to pay the “out of network” provider.

I call them back and tell them this and they immediately say “OK, we have adjusted the invoice to zero.”

Bastards would have made me pay if I hadn’t been smart enough to read and understand my policy myself, but THEY KNEW the whole time and were going to make me pay it, anyway.

Fuck insurance companies.
