If you like creating gaming clips for TikTok, Youtube, or even Discord but do not enjoy spending hours editing videos, Sony may be working on something made for you. The company has filed a new patent for an AI-powered system that could automatically turn PlayStation gameplay clips into social media highlight reels.
The goal is to make content creation much easier for players by letting artificial intelligence handle most of the editing work. Instead of recording clips manually and using multiple editing apps, the system would automatically select the best moments from gameplay and turn them into ready-to-share reels.
According to the patent published earlier this month (via MP1st), the AI would not simply choose random scenes. The system studies a player behavior, playstyle, and skill level to decide what should count as a highlight. For example, if the player is more casual, the AI might capture a difficult kill or an important achievement. For more competitive players, the system could instead focus on bigger gameplay moments, like winning a “1v3” or “1v4” situation where the player is the last one still alive.
The technology could automatically create several types of media, including short gameplay clips, screenshots, digital collages, and even “highlight cards.” The patent also mentions the possibility of generating 3D-style digital collectibles based on key gameplay moments.
Sony’s system would also attach short descriptions to every clip or image. This could include information such as high scores, boss fights, or other gameplay details so viewers immediately understand what is happening when the content is shared.
In short, Sony wants AI to make the sharing process much simpler for players, since creating gameplay clips takes a lot of time and often requires several different editing apps. Of course, as with all AI integrations, they also run the risk of losing the human touch that makes handmade content what it is. As more information becomes available, we’ll make sure to update here at GameObserver.

how the hell are they gonna justify an app that turns short videos into slightly different short videos?

There's enough clickbait clips out there, we don't need more. I would rather have raw footage than AI transformed one.
