Just a quick fact check; the estimated range of gold on this structure (Schwegadon Pagoda) is between 6 - 60 tonnes of gold, according to some older reports, and that 27 tonne figure was reached by some lazy journalist taking the middle of that range and running with it. This also includes "impure" gold alloys, and isn't representative of the actual pure gold content.
It's nearly impossible to know exactly how much gold is on this structure, as a very large portion of it would have been added onto it by monks & visitors over the years. I would personally be very surprised if the gold content on this structure exceeded 15 tonnes.

On their official website, the stated pure gold weight of the stupa is 3.08 tonnes.
