Sadly, it only takes a few people to buy at insane prices to keep them afloat, so they never go away. Same exact principle behind 'micro' transactions that cost $99+ in video games. It only takes a few whales to mess it up for everyone else, and so insanely priced microtransactions will never go away.
They only exist because there is an industry for it. If people stopped paying the insane prices from scalpers, then the practice would go away because it would not be profitable for them. If it takes you a few more months to get the new shiny thing you wanted, oh well. Better than supporting the scalpers.
