We had a workmate in our department many years ago who cut up his hand over the weekend on some yard power tool or another. On the following Monday, after 3 or 4 people stopped to ask him about his hand, we had the story straight, and made a little sign with a string necklace to place around neck, and had him wear it the remainder of the day (all in good fun, he certainly could have refused, but I think he felt if it cut down on the interruptions, he was all for it). Note: It wasn't a serious injury, but the bandage was prominent for a few days.
