As a recent immigrant to Canada, I was stunned by the ritual return of the serviceman who died in Latvia. Every overpass on the 401 was decorated with flags and manned by people showing their respects. How people honor the deceased says a lot about a place.

There was pilots and flight crew there from every Canadian airline, plus international ones who were close enough to attend.
Also crowd in Ottawa, the home base of the other pilot involved.
