Never understood why religious people think marriage has always been a religious thing. Marriage historically was meant for power/economic/political reasons and religion had nothing to do with it. It wasn’t really until the Middle Ages that marriage was a religious ceremony. And later than that it was finally a mandatory requirement to have a “valid” marriage within the church…

Holy matrimony can be one man and one woman, sure.
The rest of humanity not getting a holy marriage can partake in regular old Matrimony.
