I get that there are negatives in the process from raw materials to EV but I think the more important thing to note here is advancement in the field. The more R&D we put towards this technology, the better it can become. If it wasn't so actively stifled for so many years we might already have viable solid state batteries and an *environmentally friendly* build processes.
One of the big issues is how can we make this environmentally friendly and cost effective. Otherwise manufacturers are fine polluting the planet to make a buck and the general population is not the most keen on voting with its dollar.

This would mean more if Trump didn't think burning coal to create the electricity was "clean"
