Richmond Power Station – Completed in 1925
During the early 20th century, the Philadelphia Electric Company built multiple power stations around the city to keep up with the needs of Philadelphia’s growing population. The Philadelphia Electric Company hired John Torrey Windrim to design and build the Delaware Power Station, completed in 1917, and the Richmond Power Station, completed in 1925.
Windrim would later serve as the president of the Philadelphia Electric Company and the Susquehanna Power Company.
Richmond Power Station was shut down after 59 years of operation in 1984. It sat in a ready reserve state for high-demand days throughout the 1990s and finally shut down for good in the early 2000s.
