I was there for a few days this time last year. You can walk out onto the Arctic Ocean because it freezes over around October. Despite the lack of direct sun, civil twilight provides enough light to see by for several hours per day. I didn't venture very far out on the ocean because the idea of a polar bear creeping up on me was a bit spooky.

I'm at 69°N and can barely see the sun touching the tops of mountains around us, a few more days and we'll be in the polar night until the end of Jan as well. I quite like the dark blue sky in the middle of the day.
