I live very close to Elaine and had never heard of this until a few years ago. I’m in my mid 40’s. It’s shameful the way these events have been covered up. Kind of like the Greenwood massacre in Tulsa.

The book is excellent and also covers the brilliant legal work that saved many of the 122 African Americans indicted after the massacre.
