I live in Nebraska where people will sit in one lane for miles trying to be polite not realizing that THEY are the reason it’s moving slow and if they just took turns merging their wouldn’t be as bad of traffic.
Our town had a fight lasting months over zipper merging here in OK during construction. Trucks would literally drive down the middle so if you tried to zipper merge you can't, other cars would try to bully you into the ditch. Cars would follow you yelling and threatening. Guns were flashed. All the cars line up in the left lane (the right one ends) and make a traffic line for almost a mile all day everyday because if you try to zipper merge shenanigans go down.

It’s actually been shown to be more efficient to zipper merge. But the real issue is nobody knows how to fucking merge!
