A mayor of a small town in Kansas was charged earlier this week for allegedly voting in multiple elections, despite not being a U.S. citizen.

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach and Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab filed six charges against Mayor Joe Ceballos in Comanche County.

Ceballos is the mayor of Coldwater and is described as a lawful permanent resident from Mexico who allegedly voted in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 elections, according to Fox News.

Prior to being mayor of Coldwater, he used to be a city councilman.

“In Kansas, it is against the law to vote if you are not a U.S. Citizen,” Kobach wrote on the social media platform, X on Thursday. “We will not tolerate illegal voting.”

Kobach also made it clear that elected officials are legally required to be U.S. citizens, however it is not a criminal offense.

"In large part, our system right now is based on trust, trust that when the person signs the registration or signs the poll books saying that he is a qualified elector or that he is a United States citizen, that the person is telling the truth," Kobach said. "In this case, we allege that Mr. Ceballos violated that trust."

The charges Ceballos was hit with include voting without being qualified and perjury, according to documents reviewed by Fox News Digital.

Kobach said illegal voting happens more often than people think.

"Noncitizen voting is a real problem,” he said. “It is not something that happens once in a decade. It is something that happens fairly frequently.”

Kobach is the genesis of the myth of voter fraud, so I’m deeply not surprised he is still chasing this white whale even though his own damn investigations have borne an actual negative amount of fruit. As a Kansan, I just want this guy to find a quiet hole in the ground and rot.

Casual reminder for everyone here that he did in fact find voter fraud when he began this stupid crusade of his— it was one vote, for Republicans, by an older woman who accidentally voted on behalf of her deceased husband.

Naturally, he ignored it, in spite of claiming he’d be so hard on voter fraud all through that election cycle.

So how did he even register to vote? The voter registration form requires affirmation of citizenship under penalty of perjury, and I'm pretty sure the loud and proud Republicans of the state require proof of citizenship at the time of registration. So, how'd that even happen? Oh, right... I forgot the key hallmark of Republican leadership:

Incompetency.
