Article content Titled “5.5-hour flight next to a human biohazard,” the passenger recounted how an older gentleman on his own boarded the plane with the assistance of airline workers and sat down next to them. “The moment he sat down I knew I was SOL,” the Redditor wrote ominously. “Turns out he had some serious mobility issues, which meant I was effectively window-seat-prisoned for 5.5 hours.” They noted colourfully how flight attendants would check on their seatmate and assess the situation. “Every breath was a gamble.” The traveller noted how upon landing, their seatmate “immediately stood up against instructions, naturally,” and “that’s when the true horror revealed itself.”

I had spent an entire cross-country flight marinating in that odor.” They continued, “As I stumbled off the plane in shock, one of the flight attendants said, ‘I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. Why didn’t you ask for a mask?’ Lady, I needed an exorcism.” Delta apologized to the passenger, with the flight attendant offering to give them 5,000 airline miles, which they said was nice not enough. “Honestly, I think I deserved therapy and several showers.” In a screenshot of the airline’s “heartfelt apology,” it offered the passenger the free miles as compensation. Reddit “At Delta, we take pride in delivering an exceptional experience, providing reliable and thoughtful service at every moment of your travel journey,” it noted.

Article content “On your recent trip with us, we didn’t live up to that commitment and we want you to know we’re sorry,” the apology continued. “Your satisfaction means everything; it’s why we do what we do. We hope you’ll give us an opportunity to make things right.” The Toronto Sun has reached out to Delta for further comment. Others were more concerned about whether the seat was even cleaned properly after the accident. “I want to know if they removed the entire contaminated seat before the plane departed again, or did the cleaners just spray it with Lysol? This is a literal biohazard,” one person wrote. A second person commented: “Assume everything is covered in feces by default. I carry disinfecting wipes and wipe my seat down. My airport clothes do not get worn again until they’re washed.” A third traveller agreed: “I have to walk straight from the front door to the shower after I fly. I work in a hospital and regularly come home covered in other people’s bodily fluids with less cringe than I do after flying.”
