The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says it has seized thousands of litres of chemicals that are known precursor components in the production of fentanyl and other illicit drugs.

On May 13 and 24, CBSA officers found 4,300 litres of these substances inside two marine containers from China at the Tsawwassen Container Examination Facility in Delta, the agency announced Thursday.

The shipments were destined for Calgary.

Sixty clear jugs and 20 blue drums were found to include 3,600 litres of 1, 4 Butanediol, a chemical used in the production of GHB, also known as the “date-rape drug.” The CBSA says 500 litres of propionyl chloride — a fentanyl precursor — and 200 litres of Gamma butyrolactone were also seized.

In the three months ending in August, the agency has made 12,193 seizures, it says. This includes drugs, firearms and other prohibited weapons, alcohol, tobacco, jewelry, and over $9 million in cash.

What, they didn't have to blow them up while they were on a boat?

Good. The opioid epidemic is bad enough.

Edit: Jesus Christ guys I wasn't making some grand statement about how this would solve the overdose problem, I was simply stating how seizing any toxic drug supply is probably a good thing. Some of you really need to touch some grass.
