Not to be anal about this (get it?), but that's not a liferaft, it's a lifeboat. Yes there is a difference. This one specifically is a freefall lifeboat, normally found on tankers. The whole point is they fall away from the ship, in the opposite direction of travel to the ship in order to get away from a potential chemical fire onboard as quickly as possible.
