Houston: Missing teen in ICE custody
The teen was reported missing after he was last seen Saturday afternoon near the intersection of Clay Road and Hempstead Road.
FIEL, an immigrant-led civil rights organization, helped the boy's family put out a call for help during a press conference on Friday.
According to the organization, the teen was selling fruit with his mother on Saturday when he asked to go to the restroom. His mom was reportedly busy tending to a customer at the time, and when she turned back around a few minutes later, he was gone.
After trying to find her son, his mom called police.
Hours after the press conference, Houston Police confirmed with FOX 26 that the teen had been found safe and would be reunited with his family.
FOX 26 later learned from FIEL that the teen had been in ICE custody at a Houston-area detention center since Monday. He is reportedly OK, and his family is working to get him out of custody.

He used to attend Las Americas Newcomer school, a public school in Houston for new arrivals to the US who don’t speak English and/or don’t have much of a formal education. The school was forced to close because of low enrollment, due in large part to how much fear there is in immigrant communities right now. They’re understandably afraid to send their kids to a place that’s known to cater to low income children who are recent arrivals.
This child used to have a place to go during the day where he could be safe and learn. But now his poor mother lost her job and is likely struggling to keep an eye on him while trying to support her family, and ICE swoops in to kidnap her child.
This entire situation makes me sick.

Just in case anyone needed more proof that ICE isn’t “going after criminals”
They grabbed a random teen off the street and didn’t bother to identify the person or notify the parents.

This makes me feel physically ill.
ICE is a monstrous organization. I don’t understand how anyone can support this.
